Yin yoga stresses the joints and connective tissue of the body. Props are used to support long held, passive postures on the floor in this quiet, gentle practice.
Hatha means "force" in Sanskrit. In the Tantra era, practitioners believed that the body was the vehicle to enlightenment and perfected āsana (posture) to create a "diamond body" in order hold high levels of prāna (life fore energy) in the body. This practice emphasizes thoughtful sequencing, alignment, holding postures to increase strength and stability, and coordinating breath with movement. As you observe the subtle, directional movement of your breath, notice your body-mind transform.
This practice is achieved in a reclined position nested comfortably with blankets and pillows. Scanning through points in the body, slip into a deeply relaxed state of consciousness between sleep and a slight trace of awareness. Practicing Yoga Nidra reduces stress and anxiety while calming the nervous system and promoting rest.
